The Isle of Arran or ‘Scotland in miniature’ as it’s known by locals, is a popular destination for those seeking outdoor adventures, stunning scenery, and a glimpse into Scottish culture. 1- Visit Brodick Castle and Country Park

Brodick Castle is one of the most famous landmarks on the Isle of Arran, situated on the island’s picturesque easterly coast. Built in the 13th century, it’s been inhabited by many different families over the years but was the traditional seat of the Dukes of Hamilton.

Today, it’s open to visitors, who can explore its grand rooms and learn about the castle's history. The castle is surrounded by a picturesque country park, which features a walled garden, a woodland trail, and stunning views of the sea and mountains. There’s also an outdoor adventure park to keep the little ones entertained while you peruse the grand estate.

2- The Machrie Moor Standing Stones

The Machrie Moor Standing Stones are a mysterious and fascinating attraction on the Isle of Arran. The stones are believed to be over 4,000 years old and were likely used for religious or ceremonial purposes by the island's early inhabitants. Visitors can walk among the stones and marvel at their ancient origins, as well as take in the stunning views of the surrounding landscape. There are no less than six circles in total – so plenty to explore in the vast moorland near Blackwaterfoot.

3- Goatfell

One for the hiking enthusiasts! Goatfell, the highest peak on the Isle of Arran, is a challenging but rewarding walk - because by the time you reach the top you’re awarded with stunning views of the island's rugged coastline and rolling hills. There are several different trails to choose from, ranging from a gentle stroll to a more strenuous climb, so hikers of all abilities can enjoy the experience. Walks take between 2 and 5 hours, and on a clear day you can see as far as Jura, Ben Lomond, and even Ireland!

4- Visit a distillery

For an island of its size, Arran is blessed with two distilleries.

The elder of the two is Lochranza distillery. Founded in 1995, it has become known for producing some of Scotland's finest single malt whiskies. The distillery offers tours and tastings for visitors, where you can learn about the production process and sample some of Lochranza's award-winning whiskies. The distillery's picturesque location on the shores of Lochranza Bay and its commitment to using traditional methods make it a must-visit destination if you’re an enthusiast of any sort!

Lagg Distillery is the newest addition to the Isle of Arran's whisky-making scene. The distillery offers tours that take visitors through the entire whisky-making process, from malting the barley to aging the whisky in oak barrels.

On top of these four activities, Arran is an island filled with beautiful beaches, rugged terrain, with a variety of different festivals and cultural events dotted throughout the year.
